Construction Updates

49 Peggy's Way

Electrical, insulation, and plumbing, oh my!

Progress is happening at an increased pace. Our core builders have had additional help from new individuals, Long Trail School students and Shires Young Professionals, keeping this build on schedule, if not ahead!

We are looking forward to the groups who are scheduled for the coming weeks!  (Maybe your group would like to schedule a day at the build site?)

In the coming weeks, drywall, painting and cabinets will be installed.

While there is still plenty to do, it feels as though every day more and more things just fall into place.

It's a wonderful feeling every time one of our construction sites does a "big thing" that truly changes the look and feel of the site/home.

This past week, that happened here when the slab was poured for the foundation of this house, and for the first time it does not resemble a pit.

Instead it is now the base for the home where Jason and Rachel can raise their children, and watch them grow up. It resembles strength, and stability, and one day soon, will be a monument to the family's self-reliance.

In the coming weeks we will begin framing, and once again this work site will transform. As the structure of a house comes to light, so too will the vision of this family's home.

With 25 entries from nearly 40 students, and raising nearly $10,000 for the organization, it is safe to say that this year's Model Home Building Contest was a success!

While this wasn't the largest turnout for this event ever, we certainly had some of the coolest submissions ever this year! We saw things like a waterfall, a Lego house, camper vans, tiny houses, a drum set on the roof, a tree house, a model built with a 3D pen, and many more amazing submissions.

Check out this video highlight reel our office put together, you don't want to miss it!

Thank you to all of our sponsors who made this happen. TPW Real Estate was our presenting sponsor, rk MILES was our gold sponsor, and Stewart's Shops was our silver sponsor. We are also very grateful for the donations made by Express Copy, Christo's Pizza, and Northshire Bookstore, as well as two very generous board members who donated the $1,000 cash prize.

Most importantly, all of the students understood just how important a home is, and got to see first hand what our organization does, in our efforts to make safe, affordable housing accessible for all.

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week!

As you (hopefully) know by now, volunteers are the backbone, life blood, and the "raison d'etre" of this organization. If it wasn't for them, we would have no board, no committees, our store would not be staffed, and our construction sites would be inactive at worst, or wildly expensive at best.

So far in 2023 (Jan1-now) :

57 Individuals have volunteered.

39 Volunteers have worked 1,098.25 hours on our construction sites.

20 volunteers have worked 669 hours at our ReSale Store.

The state of Vermont values volunteer labor's economic impact at about $22/hour. This means that our construction volunteers have saved nearly $23,000 off the cost of our homes this year alone. This also means our store volunteers have saved us nearly $15,000 staffing the store.

Please consider joining us out at the

worksite for National Volunteer Week!

No experience is necessary, and we would love to have you. For more information about volunteering, visit our website here, or call or email our volunteer coordinator, Tye, at (802) 367-100 or [email protected].

Save the Date

We hope you can join us on Sunday, May 21st for a gathering

as we welcome the Metcalf family HOME!

We will gather to celebrate all of the hard work that went into building the house and bringing the Metcalf family HOME. These dedications are a mix of celebrations and expressing our appreciation to everyone who played a part in making this happen. From donors, to volunteers, to staff, to the homeowners themselves, everyone has worked hard to make this happen for the Metcalf's, and we want to be sure that none of that hard work goes unrecognized.

Please come celebrate with us on May 21st as we bring the Metcalf family HOME!

Attention All Homeowners

Due to high demand and the second-highest rate of payments in the nation, the Vermont Homeowner Assistance Program (VHAP) will no longer accept new applications after Monday, June 12, 2023.

All new or currently pending applications must be submitted to the applicant portal on vermonthap.vhfa.org by 5 pm on this date. VHAP provides grants of up to $30,000 per household towards overdue mortgage payments, utility bills, property taxes, and property association charges.

Launched in January 2022, VHAP has now awarded $29.4 million in grants and received applications for an additional $8 million, accounting for about 90% of its available funding provided by the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

The latest available data from the US Treasury shows that, as of September 2022, Vermont was second in the nation for the percentage of available Homeowner Assistance Program funds paid out to homeowners.
