Volunteers are the lifeblood of our work. No matter what your profession or interest, there’s a way for you to help us provide safe, sustainable, affordable housing to our neighbors.

New Construction

We are always in need of people to help us raise and finish good homes. From day labor to specialized trades, we’ll put your skills to use.

Volunteer shifts are 8:30-2:30 Thursday-Saturday.

Join us by collecting merchandise from donors or in the store preparing inventory to be sold at huge discounts to fund our construction projects.

Volunteer shifts are 11-2, and 1-4 Wednesday-Friday, and 10-1 and 1-4 on Saturday.

Repair

Your handy skills can help us make minor, critical repairs and install ramps for income eligible homeowners-many of them elders-countywide.

These projects happen on a rolling basis, we work 8:30-2:30 when there is a home repair project.

Volunteer FAQ

No! While experience is certainly always helpful, and appreciated, you do not need any prior experience to join us. This is true for our construction sites, and in our ReStore. We provide all training, and most days you will be joined by volunteers with a plethora of experience and knowledge to share with you.

We do have age restrictions for volunteers. You must be 14 to volunteer in person. If you are 13 or under, we always love having snacks for our volunteers, and that is a great way to get involved!

Restrictions exist for all volunteers aged 14-17. 14 +15 have stricter restrictions than 16+17, so please reach out to us and chat if you are interested in becoming a volunteer!

Absolutely not! Your age is not a hinderance to us, we value and consider your ability and comfort before we consider age.

No! You are welcome to join us every day, or once per week, once per month, or even just sporadically whenever your schedule allows. No matter what, we’re just happy to have you with us!

Construction shifts are 6 hours, from 8:30-2:30.

ReStore shifts are 3 hours each, 11-2 and 1-4 on weekdays, and 10-1 and 1-4 on weekends.

You are welcome to come late, or leave early if your schedule necessitates, we simply ask that you let us know prior so we can plan accordingly.

We do not provide lunch. However we, along with other volunteers, provide snacks! This is a great way to volunteer if your schedule doesn’t allow you to join us on site.

Yes, when you register to be a volunteer the online form has a question for this. Let us know and we will do our best to coordinate snacks accordingly.

Of course! In fact, we highly recommend bringing a friend your first time. See the “Volunteer Teams” section below if you would like to bring more than one friend.

We prefer the term “differently abled” but yes, you can! We pride ourselves in making sure there is always something to do for everyone.

Of course this may or may not require special planning depending on your unique situation. We ask that you let us know of any challenges you may face prior to joining us, and we will plan accordingly.

Please note our office is a second floor walk up, however our construction sites (depending on the task of the day) and our ReStore are both accessible.

For the construction site, our only true rule is closed toed shoes. Steel toes are preferred, but not required. Long sleeves and pants are best, but it depends on the task of the day. Use your best judgement.

For the ReStore, it is a casual retail experience, with no formal attire.

We do however require that all clothing be appropriate. Wearing clothing with vulgar words or images, political messages, or are excessively revealing may result in being asked to leave for the day.

Volunteer Teams

Group volunteer days are always popular, but there is a limit of how many work days on an affordable home can support so many people volunteering at once. If you are interested in a group of 10, please email [email protected]

In an effort to allow more new people to comfortably join us on the construction sites, we are excited to introduce Volunteer Team Days. Join us with up to 3 other friends or colleagues, almost any day on any site. Click the link below for more information.
