Why You Should Visit the Bennington County Habitat ReStore
8/12/2025
If you’ve never stepped inside the Bennington County Habitat ReStore in Manchester, or it’s been a while since your last visit, you might be surprised by what’s waiting for you. Yes, we have couches, dressers, and dining room tables — but that’s only the beginning. Our shelves are also stocked with tools, hardware, kitchen cabinets, sinks, lighting, and unique one-of-a-kind finds that change every week.
Think of the Manchester ReStore as a treasure hunt in the best sense. Every item you see has been donated by someone in our community — sometimes a homeowner upgrading a few fixtures, sometimes a contractor with leftover building materials. Each piece is cleaned, priced, and ready for its next chapter. And because our stock depends entirely on what comes through our donation doors, no two visits are ever the same.
When you shop at the Bennington County Habitat ReStore, you’re doing more than saving money — you’re helping build and repair homes for local families. The proceeds from your purchase directly support Bennington County Habitat for Humanity projects in our own community.
Shopping here also helps the environment. Instead of tossing out perfectly good furniture, decor, and building materials, you’re giving them a second life. That means less waste in the landfill and more affordable resources for your neighbors.
While we sometimes get compared to a thrift store, the Habitat ReStore is something unique. Many thrift stores operate to raise funds for a cause, while others are run as for-profit businesses. But every Habitat ReStore — including ours here in Manchester — exists for one purpose: to help build more affordable homeownership opportunities. When you shop here, you’re part of that mission.
Just last month, a complete set of solid oak kitchen cabinets arrived — still in beautiful condition. By the end of the week, they were loaded onto a customer’s truck, headed for a new kitchen where they’ll serve for years to come.
Another day, a box of assorted hand tools came in, donated by a local DIYer. By the next morning, that box had been picked over by people starting home projects, fixing up rental properties, and even building playhouses for their kids. It’s the kind of quick turnover that makes frequent visits worth it — if you see something you like, it may not be here tomorrow.
One of the most common questions we get at the Habitat ReStore is, “How do I know what’s on sale?” The answer is simple — just look at the price tag color.
Every month, we rotate our tag colors. Items marked with last month’s color are now 20% off, and the color from the month before that is a whopping 40% off. This means savvy shoppers can score serious deals just by keeping an eye out for the right colors. And because our stock moves quickly, the best bargains tend to disappear fast.
Imagine finding a perfectly good kitchen sink for $30 — and then realizing it’s 40% off. That’s the kind of find that keeps bargain hunters, DIYers, and home renovators coming back again and again.
We see all kinds of volunteers walk through our doors:
Seasoned retirees who can price and organize a hardware shelf in their sleep
Recent transplants learning the community one customer at a time
Young adults who roll up their sleeves to move furniture or load a truck
Skilled tradespeople who share their know-how with shoppers and staff
First-time volunteers who bring fresh energy and a willingness to learn every task
While our goal is to help you find your next great bargain, we’re always looking for friendly, hardworking volunteers to help keep the store running smoothly. Volunteers assist with organizing donations, arranging displays, and helping customers find what they’re looking for. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn more about home improvement, and directly support Habitat’s mission.
Whether you have a few hours a month or a few days a week, we’d love to have you join us.
The Manchester ReStore is open Wednesday–Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. The items we have today may be gone tomorrow, so don’t wait to stop in. From couches to cabinet hinges, from power tools to patio sets, the ReStore is stocked with possibilities — and the perfect find might be here right now, just waiting for you.
